TBSC Consulting Helps Margebeli JSC To Exploit Opportunities In Dairy Sector

Dairy products constitute a major part of daily ration of Georgian population. Georgians consumed about 270 000 tons of dairy products in 2008; that is 154 liters of milk equivalent per capita. Nevertheless, dairy industry is at an early stage of development as 99 percent of raw fresh milk is produced by households and 78 percent of milk is processed by households into dairy products.

Low productivity and poor quality milk are major problems in primary milk supply. This is caused by unproductive local breed, poor feed management, poor cow welfare and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions of milking and storage, poor animal health and absence of properly organized value chain. Respectively, there are good business opportunities in development of primary milk production in Georgia.
